Fragile ecosystem of arid regions faces huge challanges, says Mbeki

The vulneralbility of desert ecosystems to changes caused by human activity is maong the core development issues faced by the desert people.
This was said by Thabo Mbeki, President of South Africa, at the Second Festival of the Cultures and Civilisations of the World Deserts, which opened in Dubai yesterday.
At a ceremony attended by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Defence Minister, Abdul Aziz Bouteflika, President of Algeria, and other top officials, Mbeki said desertification in recent times has been accelerated largely by human interventions in the environment. ...

Moonlight, distributed by Desert River in Dubai, is basically globes of light that mimic the moon. "Oh, cool," I exclaimed when I saw one. "You can have a full moon in your living room." "That's just the idea," a Moonlight agent replied.
Manufactured in Germany, these lights are available as either full globes or half globes, in many colours and in many styles.
They can be placed almost anywhere. They can be used to light up the walkway or put in the pool to prevent a nocturnal walker from falling in. There are even globe tables and globes that one can carry around as an alternative to torchlights. These globes are extremely decorative even when they are not lit.
